Charlotte Chappell's Fundraising Success Story
As a breast cancer survivor, Charlotte Chappell knows the importance and the impact of one Weekend. After experiencing the 2009 Weekend to End Breast Cancer, she wouldn’t dare miss out on 2010.
While recovering from surgery, a commercial for The Weekend came on her television and changed her life right away. Chappell immediately picked up the phone and registered as crew in the 2009 Weekend to End Breast Cancer.
After experiencing Closing Ceremonies, Charlotte and her team went straight to the re-registration table and signed up to walk in the 2010 Weekend to End Breast Cancer. “It was an amazing experience and as soon as I witnessed the closing ceremonies I couldn’t have registered faster,” says Chappell.
As the team captain of Team Hugs & Jugs, they have a goal of raising $10,000 in 2010. The team is already well on their way, as they find new and creative ways to fundraise. “Our biggest success has been flea markets on weekends. We always try to fundraise as a team and fundraising IS fun, we make sure of it,” says Charlotte.
The team has reached out to different companies, such as Noodles & Company, who helped with printing expenses and distributed a portion of the costs to the team. “They also allowed us to set up a table to sell our team t-shirts, bracelets and hats,” says Charlotte. “We take any opportunity offered and use it to our full ability!”
The team is preparing a webpage with an Avon representative, allowing customers to choose the Hugs & Jugs link on the webpage and 30 per cent of the costs will go to the team. “Online sales coming up will help fundraising, but not demand a lot of time from our team. We still have time to plan garage sales and get out to more flea markets,” says Charlotte.
What’s Charlotte’s number one tip to others who are trying to fundraise? “Always ask, as the worst anyone can say is no. Ask companies for donations to help with your fundraising efforts and ask in person as much as you can. People tend to be more receptive face-to-face,” says Charlotte.
After receiving clear results in her six-month mammogram appointment, Charlotte is determined to do what she can. Due to their passion and positive energy Charlotte and her team will have no problem meeting their goal, and perhaps beyond it!
